Yes. Yes, let’s do this.

Every bit as hot as the first book, but with an agitated, sweet, romantic jealousy that’s just endearing.

Market Garden is quickly becoming my number one recommendation for re-readability!

THE BLURB

Turnabout is foreplay. High-end Market Garden rentboys Tristan and Jared have found their niche. Men are willing to pay good money to watch Tristan tease Jared, and the two of them seduce London's elite with sex and power games.
Except Tristan is less and less interested in getting money out of the johns these days. He wants his partner in crime, and he wants the seduction to be real. But is Jared just in this for the pay?
When Rolex, the john who started it all, returns to Market Garden, the boys jump on the opportunity to service him-and each other-for a fresh pile of cash. Rolex isn't the only one itching for a rematch, though. Jared's been waiting for a chance to get back at Tristan for teasing him so mercilessly the first time.
And for a former stripper, revenge is a dish best served extra hot.

THE CHARACTERS

Tristan - It’s all about watching smooth, charming, in control Tristan, come completely undone. The poor guy just cracks.
And, of course, his hips moved. God, they moved. Tristan didn’t even know if they were in synch with the music anymore. He couldn’t even hear the music anymore.

Jared - Heh, and Tristan thought he was the tease. Jared shows us what striptease really means. Afterall, turnabout is foreplay. Just imagine the talent it takes to dance while removing tight leather pants. NNnggghhh!
”Can’t say I’ve ever danced for him.” His gaze slid towards Tristan. “We’ve never done that, have we?”

Rolex - The john. The narrator. The audience. It’s like we’re sitting in his shoes. Or maybe I should say squirming in his trousers.

”Nothing weird. You guys know I like to watch.” He leaned closer, flattening his palms on the table. “And give some orders along the way.”

THE STORY

Tristan and Jared enjoy a second hookup with a john who just wants to watch. Rolex decides that Jared should dance for Tristan. You know the rules of a lap dance don’t you? No touching!

THE WRITING

Witt and Voinov know precisely how to build the heat and anticipation and then cap it off with a steamy burst of ahhh, satisfaction. Just mark me down as a regular in The Garden Market.

These talented, twisted authors have me hoping, not for freedom or salvation, but for Mat and Dougie to give in…to submit. So, who here has been altered? The characters or the reader?

This serial, then, is the difference between reading about a mindfuck and being mindfucked. And I can't get enough.

THE BLURB

In episode five of The Flesh Cartel, Nikolai is well on his way to undermining the bond between Mat and Dougie, but there’s still a long road ahead. Training slaves is a process full of setbacks, and with these two, the situation is more complex and precarious than usual.
Walking the line with Mat is especially challenging. Too severe a hand leaves him fearful, even broken, but too light a touch leaves him disobedient and full of fury. Dougie, on the other hand, wants desperately to end his suffering and loneliness and fear. But his unwillingness to disappoint his brother means he can’t bring himself to submit. Controlling Mat with pain alone is futile, so Nikolai must take a defter route by decoding Mat’s deeper desires: why does he fight, and why does he want so badly to win? By contrast, Dougie may need a firmer touch than the pleasure and affection Nikolai has so far shown him. To convince Dougie of how much he stands to gain by giving all of himself to Nikolai, he must first teach him how much more he has left to lose.

THE CHARACTERS

Mat - Oh how nice, Mat finds his joy! Beware Mat, of masters bearing gifts.

He drew a shoddy picture of Nikolai’s face, stuck it to the heavy bag with some of the tape he’d been given for his hands, and beat the shit out of it…But he felt better.

Dougie - Poor Dougie. His is not pleasure or pain, but pleasure and shame.

And surely he must want it on some level, or his body wouldn’t be behaving like this, right?

Nikolai - Dare I say it again? I love Nikolai. I do. I love to hate him. He’s just the best. He’s crazy. He really does want his slaves to be happy. It’s so easy. Don’t you see? Just do what the nice, well dressed man wants. It’s easier. Hehe, haha!

”Perhaps you need to reconsider what it means to win here,…”

THE STORY

In episode 5, 5 really? Only 5? Whew!

Dougie receives constant, endless pleasure and humiliation. Mat receives thoughtful gifts and insight. Nikolai just keeps getting exactly what he wants. And it makes the most fascinating read to see him getting it.

THE WRITING

While Mat may have found a chink in Nikolai’s armor (yes, that's a teaser), there are none in this story. It just keeps whipping along brilliantly. Again, flawless.

THE BLURB:

Devon Harper is a cambion, the offspring of an incubus and one of his female followers. Discovered by those who could've helped him too late to be saved from his nature, he barely survived a brutal childhood before getting a handle on his powers of seduction. Lust, sex, desire: these are second nature to cambion, and are their road to both riches and ruin. Devon has the power to bring people to their knees with a glance, to drive them so crazy with pleasure that they forget their names, and occasionally forget to breathe as well. He could use his birthright to force the world to worship him, but Devon is trying to fight against the pull, to do what he can to track down people with the power to summon a demon and stop them before more cambion can be made.

But Devon doesn't realize that the path he and his friends are following is only one strand of a web laid in place by a demon who's not content to wait on the whims of humanity to get out of Hell. Devon is this demon's key to staying above ground permanently, and when he finally catches up with the cambion, he's not taking no for an answer.

Episode 1: Heaven's On Fire
Devon's infiltration of a Chinese kingpin's lair doesn't quite go off as planned, and lands him in a dangerous predicament. Shangdi knows about Devon, and knows how useful a cambion can be, particularly to his partner, the mysterious demon summoner Porter Grey. With time running out for Devon, it's up to the even more mysterious Rio Pagani to storm the compound and pull Devon out before Porter can put his plans for the cambion into motion.

THE STORY

Devon and Rio work for Safeguard Systems which specializes in security, body guards, search and rescue, as well as covert demon hunting operations. Devon attempts to infiltrate an underground lair in search of demon summoner Porter Grey. When Devon’s cambion nature is discovered the intel op turns into a rescue mission. Enter Rio – Oh yes, please! When I need to be rescued I want Rio, just like Devon…

”Oh, do I get Rio?”…”Please tell me I get Rio.”…”Please, please, pretty please…”

Since there’s a wait for Rio, Devon decides to use his allure on an unsuspecting guard. Once Devon gets his mojo started he has to have relief—a really great side effect of being cambion, IMO. Again, Rio to the rescue!

THE CHARACTERS

Devon Harper - Lusty, flirty, sexy and inhumanly beautiful. As a cambion Devon’s sexual needs are unquenchable. He’s almost juvenile in his charm and somehow that is very, very hot!
Utterly Shameless Flirt and Epic Pain in the Ass.

Rio - Seven feet of smooth confidence and power. Yeah, we want more of that. Plus he’s weapon sexy AND he can take care of Devon’s “special needs.”

Sting grenades, detcord, tear gas...two Sig P226s with extra magazines in easy reach,... and a KA-BAR matte-black tanto knife with an 8-inch blade in case anyone wanted to snuggle. Variety was the spice of a one-man tactical invasion.

Porter Grey - A gifted demon hunter; he's slippery, knowledgeable and determined.
He looked languorous and dangerous, like a lion lounging just beyond reach, tempting you...

THE WRITING

This first book in the serial does a good job of setting up interest. It lays out some main players and a general agenda for the series. It accomplishes all of this while we’re intertwined in an espionage mission and subsequent rescue operation.

I was impressed by the energy and excitement of the action scenes. The smoothness of Rio’s killer confidence makes me want to be behind him in any gun battle. Another highlight is the anticipation of a sexual encounter between Rio and Devon. Unfortunately the steamy build up was better than the act itself. I’m not saying it was a total let down, but I needed to ‘see’ more. That being said I realize this is a serial and we can’t have it all too soon. The fact that I want to see more gritty detail really says it all, right?

Dark Space by Lisa Henry 5/5 Tingling Stars

Dark Space by

ebook, 216 pages
Published December 4th 2012 by Loose ID
ISBN13 9781623001124
original title Dark Space

”You’re my heartbeat, Brady.”
I love sci-fi. I love romance. I love that Lisa Henry gave me a perfect combination of both in this book.

The setting is near-future, post-apocalyptic earth orbit. I found this a really great setting for m/m romance. The rules haven’t changed much from what we know now, in fact it just makes it all that much more intense.

CONNECTION:
  • Attachment
  • Communication
  • Relationship
  • Joining

Was it weird that I was starting to enjoy the little spikes of lust that thrilled through him when we touched? That thrilled through us?
THE BLURB: Genre: Science Fiction & Space Opera, LGBT
Brady Garrett needs to go home. He’s a conscripted recruit on Defender Three, one of a network of stations designed to protect the Earth from alien attack. He's also angry, homesick, and afraid. If he doesn’t get home he’ll lose his family, but there’s no way back except in a body bag.

Cameron Rushton needs a heartbeat. Four years ago Cam was taken by the Faceless — the alien race that almost destroyed Earth. Now he’s back, and when the doctors make a mess of getting him out of stasis, Brady becomes his temporary human pacemaker. Except they’re sharing more than a heartbeat: they’re sharing thoughts, memories, and some very vivid dreams.

Not that Brady’s got time to worry about his growing attraction to another guy, especially the one guy in the universe who can read his mind. It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just biochemistry and electrical impulses. It doesn’t change the truth: Brady’s alone in the universe.

Now the Faceless are coming and there’s nothing anyone can do. You can’t stop your nightmares. Cam says everyone will live, but Cam’s probably a traitor and a liar like the military thinks. But that’s okay. Guys like Brady don’t expect happy endings.

Note: This book contains reference to past rape, violence

THE CHARACTERS

Brady Garrett - Pissy, afraid, young, lowly recruit and probably smarter than all the officers combined.
It turns out that you can feel so fucking miserable that even the thought of asphyxiation doesn’t seem so bad.
Lt. Cameron Rushton - He’s a hero. His posters prove it. His good looks say, Join the Military and Save the Earth. Bullshit.
They probably just couldn’t fit Join the Military and Become Fucking Cannon Fodder for Aliens on the posters.
THE STORY
Maybe his return wasn’t a miracle after all. Maybe it was a harbinger.
In the near future we are in an unwinnable war against the Faceless, an enemy entirely superior, who may return at any time. We defend earth with orbiting space stations and Hawk pilots who patrol hoping to never encounter a Faceless. One of these pilots has been captured by the Faceless, rather than just being killed. He’s been gone for four years.

Conscripted at sixteen, Brady Garrett serves aboard Defender Three, a floating tin in the big black. Brady hates serving, hates the Faceless and hates that he can’t be home on earth where he belongs. When Faceless technology causes Brady and Cameron to connect they have to learn to understand one another. Cameron brings a message, but will anyone listen?

THE WRITING

Lisa Henry had me heavy or weightless, hurried and hopeless at her whim. There was a scene in the book where I was leaning forward while virtually running down a corridor with a character. I couldn’t go fast enough to save him. When the scene was over I sat back and realized, whew, that was intense. I was actually breathing hard. When I get physically involved in a scene, in fact in the whole book, I know it’s good. What a great ride. Oh, I didn't even mention yet how damn sexy this was...
My lips found that place on his jaw that made his head fall back. I liked it when he exposed his throat like that. There was something primeval about that that spoke of trust and, on some level, surrender.

Ding, ding, ding...We have a winnner!

There's something wonderful about finding joy and hope and happiness and wonder in a book that also shows you sadness and struggle and despair. I think it's all about the balance and tipping the scale in favor of the real, true emotion that you want to convey. Geoffrey Knight left me feeling very pleased and satisfied and happily knowing that it was all going to be okay.

This was just perfect for a short Saturday morning read. It gave an "uptick" to my day.

THE BLURB: Eleven-year-old Charlie thinks he is invincible. He is convinced he has a clock for a heart, which makes it impossible for him to die or feel the sort of heartache his mother always feels every time she and Charlie must flee another abusive loser who doesn’t deserve a woman like Charlie’s mum.

So yet again Charlie and his mum find themselves at Aunty June’s in Brighton on the south coast of England. But while Charlie’s mum seeks refuge, Charlie himself lets his curiosity get the better of him in his latest attempt to prove his own immortality.

That’s when he meets him.

The boy who saves Charlie’s life.

The boy from Brighton.

 THE CHARACTERS

Charlie: He's eleven and toys with life and death thinking he's invincible. Charlie, is completely odd, with an outlook on life that feels genuine and yet entirely unique.

Joe: He is the boy from Brighton. Older by six years. Wiser by even more. He saves Charlies life.

THE STORY

I climbed through the railing, but if I wanted another minute to think about what I was doing, it was already too late.

Spend a day with Charlie and Joe. Find out what they learn about life, while trying to run away from it.

THE WRITING

Geoffrey Knight creates wonder from shadows. You'll find this story to have depth, with moments that soar and it's open ending still feels complete.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this sweet, coming of age story for it's uplifting effect.

3.5 Stars -- With great potential
A serial release.

"Tea and sugar and pure sex."

THE BLURB: You think you know the story of Dorian Gray, but you're wrong. The real story didn't end the way Oscar Wilde penned; in fact, it hasn't ended at all. The ageless beauty of Dorian Gray walks now in our world of cellphones and lattes and internet porn. His latest conquest is Gabriel Lawrence, a paranormal investigator with a secret or two of his own. But the trouble with a life as long as Dorian's is that the skeletons are threatening to overrun the closet... and not all of them want to stay dead.

Season 1
Overture introduces Gabriel to the truth of a world he had only suspected, where ghost hunting is the least of his worries. And at the heart of it all is the mysterious and fascinating Dorian Gray, as though he'd stepped out of the pages of the book bearing his name. But if he has, he hasn't come through alone. And this figure from a past Dorian had though long behind him bears a grudge nurtured for a hundred years and intends to tear down everything Dorian has built, a piece at a time.

Episode 1: A Meeting of Fate
Gabriel Lawrence, a paranormal investigator from America, finds himself in London chasing down a supposedly haunted artifact. While there, he meets a man who calls himself Dorian Gray, who may not match the description from that famous story, but certainly has the attitude. And the seduction. And because ghost hunting isn't exactly a lucrative venture, Dorian's invitation into his world of opulence, decadence, and wealth may just prove too tempting for Gabriel to resist!

Some of my Goodreads friends have noticed that I actually read a classic novel this week and must have wondered why. Especially when they know how much fun I have reading "the good stuff".

I did read The Picture of Dorian Gray to prep for my read of this series, just like the good, little student that I am O_o I even looked into Oscar Wilde's 'fabulous' life. The classic was everything a classic should be; controversial, illicit, critically persecuted and prosecuted...all the good stuff. It also opens the reader up to ideas of immorality and depravity not often seen in the literature world. Well, the literature world of 1890.

Fortunately we live in the 21st century where all depravity is celebrated and out from the shadows. Yeah. Well anyway, luckily we have authors willing to carry us forward with an intriguing spin-off.

THE CHARACTERS

Dorian Gray - Dare I say the baddest bad boy of them all???
"Because I am sin incarnate,..."

Gabriel Lawrence - Young, cheeky - Alive -
Gabriel liked looking at the bright side of every situation.

Michael Lawrence - Gabriel's dead twin brother. He seems more steady, practical. Even if he's only apparent to Gabriel.
Michael groaned. You'll never see him again.
"Keep out of my head." Gabriel sighed.

THE STORY

Being instantly "thrust" into the erotic world that Dorian Gray so desired to prolong we, literally, see his depravity hasn't been subdued.

"Enough' doesn't exist, pet. You don't want 'enough'. You want more."

Gabriel and Michael are paranormal investigators living abroad and living by the seat of their pants. Well, Gabriel's pants anyway. Michael's spirit lives within Gabe. When Gabe and Michael investigate a "metaphysical tar", it feels like a scene from an early Indiana Jones movie as things seem to go from bad to worse. But we learn that this is what they do best, sort of.

When Gabriel 'bumps' into Dorian during a second chance encounter they hook up and it's hot, sexy and quite unholy. Dorian invites Gabriel for an extended stay in Scotland knowing that Gabe won't be able to resist him.

A mere gesture, and the boy could be his, but Dorian relished the conquest, the slow, erotic disintegration of those walls modern young men built around themselves.

THE WRITING

A general understanding of the concepts within A Picture of Dorian Gray would be helpful, but the authors do a fine job of making clear what happened to Dorian, allowing for artistic license to let this version work. To be clear, this is erotica, not fine literature. So to compare the works would be entirely unfair.

The authors then set off to explore and toy with the modern day version of sex, vanity and power. I don't think we're going to have to "worry" about too much morality showing up before some true fun is to be had by all.

I could have used a stronger connection between Dorian and Gabriel, but I'm sure that's still to come. In this first episode some of the relationships were rushed or even completely undeveloped. I got the feeling that we were just getting an overview of the situation rather than delving into the emotional connections. Presumably that is the nature of this type of serial release.

This is fast, quick, decadent, sinful and excessive. Everything Oscar Wilde warned us against. That was his message, I'm sure.

RECOMMENDED

BUDDY READ

I was fortunate enough to get to buddy read this with fellow book blogger Giulia from www.devastatingreads.blogspot.com and also several other GR friends joined in and shared the experience with us. I think we chose the perfect book to buddy read. The characters were visual, the writing sharp and the story was charming.

Our extended discussion can be found on here:
Goodreads Talker Discussion

THE BLURB: Tate "Talker" Walker has spent most of his life hiding his scars under a bright punk facade, and until he sat next to Brian Cooper on a bus, it worked. But Brian has spent his whole life being the invisible man, and he's used to looking below the surface. What he sees in Talker is a fragile and lovable human being.Brian is outwardly straight, but Talker is desperate for love, and when Talker's behavior leads to some painful consequences, Brian is forced to come out of his closet-in dramatic fashion. He'll do anything to make sure Talker sees that he's the Prince Charming Talker has always needed.

THE CHARACTERS

Brian Cooper - Introverted, withdrawn and closeted, even to himself.

In fact, the only thing in his life that was complicated was Tate Walker, and he liked that all this simplicity gave him the strength to be exactly what Talker needed.

Tate (Talker) Walker - I had a difficult time understanding Tate. He's complex and completely exposed all at the same time. Fascinating.

So much of Tate was like a crumpled ball of brittle cellophane, transparent and broken.

THE STORY

Take two fairly dysfunctional boys, with rather unique character qualities and mix in a little coming out, an unhealthy amount of emotional angst and a dash (okay, a healthy dash)of sexuality and you have a recipe for...More Please.

THE WRITING

I'm beginning to develop an ear for Ms. Lane's writing style. She seems to jump around a bit and while that hasn't bothered me in her other books that I've read, it was a little off putting in this one. Giulia mentioned that this wasn't a problem for her at all, so maybe it was just me.

I do appreciate the character development in this story and the gentle voice with which it was told. Very nice.

Told from Brian's POV, I'm looking forward to finding out if we hear more of Tate's voice in the next book.

Thanks Giulia, Jessica and Quirkythrope you made this a fun weekend!!!

Per Riptide Publishing:
Reader discretion advised. This title contains the following sensitive themes: [non-consent]

Fair warning, this is NOT MM Romance. This is a psycho-sexual thriller which includes rape and torture. Please proceed with that knowledge in mind.

THE BLURB: In episode four of The Flesh Cartel, Mat and Dougie Carmichael begin their training with their new master, Nikolai, where they both learn the meaning of servitude . . . and of consequences for their choices.

For Mat, destined to be trained but not broken—to always fight but never win—life with Nikolai is suffering stacked on suffering. Nikolai pushes him to the edge but not over; he must never lose the hatred in his eyes. Dougie, on the other hand, is fated to love and crave service. For that, Nikolai must teach him the pleasures of a pampered sex slave, but training a straight man to revel in his gay captor’s touch is no easy feat.

As if the challenges Mat and Dougie face aren't difficult enough, one last complication remains: before either brother can submit fully to Nikolai, they must first give up their strongest, most powerful loyalty: their dedication to each other.

THE WRITING

So here's the thing. You're not only reading about the characters being controlled; YOU are being controlled. Many times throughout this series I've found myself thinking, "ah ha, I see what's going on here," only to find I was being played. Damn authors! Just know, if you're reading these books you're offering yourself up for manipulation. If you're willing, it's sublime.

THE CHARACTERS

Nikolai -
We'll practice everyday, Nicolai had said. To comfort him? Threaten?

Dougie -
"But...but he doesn't know what I've done here. Does he?" Such sweet insecurity.

Mat -
"Please," Mathias grunted out. "No more lessons today."

THE STORY

In this episode Dougie is his own worst enemy. Mat is just so fucked. And Nikolai is, ughhhhh, indescribable.
